A Brief Introduction to Blue Ridge

Posted by at 7:14 AM on Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Blue Ridge is mystical and historical. If you are an avid historian, who loves geography, then this is one of the best places to explore. Among the most interesting places to know is the Blue ridge school.

Blue Ridge School was founded in 1909 by the Rev. George P. Mayo of the Virginia Diocese of the Episcopal Church. This was initially known as the Blue Ridge Industrial School. The School's early mission was to provide a vocational education for a coed student body that would not have had realized its rich potential. Thanks to the school indeed. The School opened to approximately 35 students and the word "industrial" was removed from the title years later. Blue Ridge School then required students to attend chapel three times a week. Its first commencement was in 1918, on which there were two students who have received diplomas.

Today, there are approximately 175 students attending in Blue Ridge. From the beginning, the students have been instructed by a faculty comprised of dedicated men and women, who are not just committed to serving the students but also to the community.

Class size is often composed of nine students. School programs highlight the development of individual talents and skills of students, who take part of benefits from the school’s annual operating budget of nearly $5 million.
