For the boat and fishing lovers, the lake is one perfect home to bream, catfish, bass, perch and crappie, which make the area popular with anglers. In the lake south of the Great Lakes, the rare Walleye are caught. This has also been popular as white bass fishing.

Blue Ridge reservoir is 11 miles long and has 65 miles of shoreline, 25 percent of which is developed. The lake was created in 1930, when Blue Ridge Dam was constructed on the Toccoa River by the Toccoa Electric Power Company. Back then, it was recorded as the largest earthen dam in the Southeast. Before the decade ended, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) purchased the facility for hydroelectric power production.
